Site of the day: SolarBeat

SolarBeat is An online ambient music box, which generates its sounds using the orbital/year frequencies of most of the major bodies of our solar system.

You can speed up the tempo, and it tells you how many years have past on different planets. its pretty neat, I had the tab open for 20 minutes is so zen.

~busy with victorian nonsense amongst other things~

Sorry about the lack of updates, i have been busy at tafe, work, and sleep. (and sometimes a social life....hmmm). I have three massive projects to do; one on Victorian era of fashion in fashion history, a huge design project covering the next five weeks, on the principals of design in which i have to buy 20 fabric samples (hello broketown) and come up with different designs relating to harmony, balance, and proportion PLUS a full description of design terminology, and score fabric for my studio piece and work on my toile. phew. it making me tired just thing about it....

I am excited about the project on Victorian fashion though, so beautiful and elegant....sometimes i wish i people still dressed that way...how dreamy

`,`,`child prodigies`,`,`

Check out Olivia Bee's photography, at only 15, her work is amazing!
her full name is Olivia Grace Bolles and hails from Portland, Oregon, USA. Her work has featured in Seventeen, Frankie and American Photo magazine, and has shot for Converse and Nike.

her photos are quoted by dazeddigital as

" a raw and honest description of her life, showing herself and friends going through the sometimes hazy, uncomfortable and occasionally, almost delirious, experience of teenage life."

check out her video for Converse/DAZED 2010 Emerging Artists Awards here, and hear her work in her own words.

Photography's Longest Exposure

six months. thats right, six whole months. Taken by photographer Justin Quinnell, he strapped the camera to a telephone pole overlooking the Gorge, where it was left between December 19, 2007 and June 21, 2008--the Winter and Summer solstices. (That's a 15,552,000 second exposure.)

This image was captured on a pin hole camrea made from an empty soda can with a 0.25mm aperture, and a single sheet of photographic paper.

Called 'solargraph', the photo shows the sun's luminescent trails change of course caused by the Earth's orbit. The lowest arc is the first day of exposure on Winter solstice, while the top curves were captured mid-Summer, while the dotted lines are the days where it was forecast.

Yes, thats right, on the 16th on May, the Sugar Blue Burlesque Lounge is hosting the monthy retro markets, and  Phoebe and I will be selling vintage pieces at our stall CHEAP! come on down between 12-5pm, to find:

◦1920s to 1980s vintage and recycled clothing, shoes and accessories

◦Antiques

◦Retro and novelty costumes

◦Pinup lingerie

◦Frocks and gowns

◦Pasties, fascinators and burlesque merchandise

◦Sewing and crafting supplies, fabric and feathers

◦Refreshments, retro cupcakes and more!

The Burlesque Lounge is 267 William St, Northbridge, upstairs (right next to Retro Vinnies)

this will be my seventh time at the markets, and its a lot of fun checking out all the other stalls as there is so much cool stuff to find. This Saturday I'm going with a friend op-shopping to collect the best stuff we can to sell at the markets. The markets are a lot cheaper than Vintage shops, and save you the hassle of sorting though racks and discount bins of charity shop clothing in the middle of nowhere, by bringing you the best finds! plus the cupcakes are AMAZING.

hope to see you there

Fuck yeah kissing, site of the day

I'm a desperate romantic, so when I found fuck yeah kissing I feel in love. Fuck yeah Kissing is a site where people can email in pictures of themselves or others kissing, and stories about passionate moments. some of it is just heart melting:

-

"I was always the boys best friend. In my sophomore year of high school I met the boy that shook my world. We told stupid jokes that no one understood, but we got each other. We were terribly comfortable together. He’d always tell me how hot this girl or that was. He revealed his deepest darkest secrets. I don’t know when I realized all I wanted was him. It may have been the day we laid on his bed, holding hands and listening to The Submarines. I felt infinite. I told him once how I always regretted this one moment in my life where I had the opportunity to dance but I didn’t. I didn’t want to feel foolish. He then asked me to dance. I loved him, and he had no clue. One day when his family was gone we stole a bottle of wine. I had never had a drink before in my life, and I was so giggly. We laid of his bed, laughing and laughing. He kissed me that day. I loved him and he was drunk, and I was there. He realized later I was the best thing he ever had going, but that didn’t stop him from breaking my heart. It’s been over a year and a half now, and he’s moved on but I still think of that skinny beautiful boy with red hair."

-

-
"When it was happening a million thoughts came running to my head—my lips are chapped. Does my breath smell? What if you don’t like the way I kiss, you are more experienced in this field after all. What if you’re just drunk and you miscalculated the distance between your lovely lips and my cheek. I didn’t want you to regret it in the morning. As i thought that, I involuntarily turned my head so you would miss by a few millimeters. Emphasis on involuntarily. I wanted to do it differently but my muscles had their own plans.
Then you made sure i wouldn’t forget. You leaned in and kissed me again. Properly this time. You didn’t miss.
That was 2 months and 1 day ago. I miss you, by the way"

I was fifteen and he was nineteen. We were on a trip from Michigan to Texas with my best friend’s ‘family’ band. But we were all under 22, I was the youngest so it was a rather exciting road trip and I was so honored to have been included. At the time we left I did not know him very well at all, but we were squished next to each other in the back seat. By nightfall we had played mad libs for hours and i spy and all varieties of novel car games, we even got everybody to sing(or shout at the top our lungs) Bohemian Rhapsody. Around 11 pm the driver, this boy and I were the only people awake, and we stayed up talking until 2 AM, when we finally decided to go to sleep he said it would be best if we leaned on each other. Each night we got progressively closer and closer. On our way home the other guy in the back hopped in the actual back of the van to stretch out, so we cuddled in the seat, and each night we were closer and closer. And on our last night we squeezed me so tight all night long and after he thought I had fallen asleep he proceeded to kiss me on the forehead twelve times. Then he kissed my cheek every once in a while, and at about four in the morning he slowly kissed me on the lips, still thinking I was asleep. I was not.
